Reimagining Intergenerational Christian Values & Beliefs Program

Welcome to the Second Episcopal District's Reimagining Intergenerational Christian Values and Beliefs Program sponsored by the Lilly Endowment, Inc. (LEI) and under the direction of Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Reginald T. Jackson, Presiding Prelate of the Second Episcopal District.

We are extremely excited to share this initiative with you because it is vital that we, as Christians, Christian educators, clergy and lay, members and leaders continue to teach and promote the Christian values and beliefs that inspire, impact, and influence members of every generation.

The program under the leadership of the SED team, and with support from LEI, will span a minimum of three years. This timeframe will allow us to significantly create programs and projects that will positively acknowledge and affirm churches, congregants, communities, families, households, caregivers, and individuals in a manner that breeds discipline for spiritual maturity and develops lifestyle enhancements.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. & Social Justice Challenge
Scripture Reference Matthew 22:37-40; Matthew 25:31-40

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an activist for civil rights.
Much of his work focused on what we now call social justice. Social justice creates a fair and equal society by addressing and rectifying inequalities in wealth, opportunities, and privilege. It ensures that all individuals have equal access to resources, rights, and opportunities, regardless of their background, identity, or socioeconomic status. To honor the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., intergenerational activities for churches involving social justice include but are not limited to the following:

Questions for journalling/discussion:

  • How do you define justice? How does it differ from the definition of justice?

  • How does privilege influence justice?

  • What are the responsibilities of the individual regarding social justice?

       Matthew 22:37-40; Matthew 25:31-40

  • What does these scriptures teach you about social justice?

  • What do they inspire you to do?

  • What did your group or church  do this year as part of this challenge in regards to social justice?
