RE-IMAGINING INTERGENERATIONAL
CHRISTIAN VALUES & BELIEFTS PROGRAM
Welcome to the Second Episcopal District's Reimagining Intergenerational Christian Values and Beliefs Program sponsored by the Lilly Endowment, Inc. (LEI) and under the direction of Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Reginald T. Jackson, Presiding Prelate of the Second Episcopal District.
We are extremely excited to share this initiative with you because it is vital that we, as Christians, Christian educators, clergy and lay, members and leaders continue to teach and promote the Christian values and beliefs that inspire, impact, and influence members of every generation.
The program under the leadership of the SED team, and with support from LEI, will span a minimum of three years. This timeframe will allow us to significantly create programs and projects that will positively acknowledge and affirm churches, congregants, communities, families, households, caregivers, and individuals in a manner that breeds discipline for spiritual maturity and develops lifestyle enhancements.

CELEBRATING HEROES & ICONS
(Hebrews 11:1-12:3)
Have adults and youth work together (at least one of each) to identify a hero (someone they admire) and an icon (someone famous). The two persons selected must share similar careers. For example, Person A (hero) is a politician, and Person B (icon) would be like Adam Clayton Powell or Fannie Lou Hamer. The adults and youth can write an essay, draw a picture, write a poem, or use any of the arts to celebrate the contribution of their hero and icon.
Questions for journalling/discussion:
-
Are the people listed in the Bible heroes, icons, or both?
-
What are the characteristics of heroes?
-
What is the difference between a hero and an icon?
-
How does your hero and icon align with Christian behaviors?
